Years 1966-1967 have become truly stellar group from Manchester. In 1967, they released just two LPs - Evolution and the Butterfly. "We as psychedelic as a pint of beer, drunk with the neighbor," - stated The Hollies. Nevertheless, the group is the clearest example of a British melodic bits, has not escaped the invasion of acidic water in the wake of the same Beatles' Sergeant Pepper. "The first bell rang in September 1967, when - unexpectedly for their loyal fans - they released fancy as lyrically and stylistically single King Midas In Reverse. Hollies for it was risky from a commercial point of view failed experiment. Written with a strong influence of interest of the American subculture Graham Nash, this richly orchestrated song with the presence of strings and brass, built on mythological allusions, proved too difficult for conservative fans and was seen as an attempt to catch the departing train is psychedelics. A month later, these "fears" confirmed new album Buttefly, to this day remains the most extraordinary and interesting creation group. On the back cover of the group captured in unusual for their coats and hats in an apparent attempt to flirt with the passage of "flower children" - hippies. In contrast to popular trio of composers - Clark Nash-Hicks, is clearly dominated by the personality of Nash, causing discord among the group members. In particular, Billy Elliott accused Nash more enthusiasm sound effects than the quality of the songs. Perhaps these criticisms are not unfounded, however, that Nash was responsible for the most interesting album tracks: bright, saturated anthem Maker, filled with the accompaniment of a sitar and tabla, the title song with interesting vocal techniques, and two truly psychedelic masterpiece - Elevated Observations ? and Try It. But even erased studio guru Ron Richards and disguised familiar vocal harmonies, Butterfly could not find its audience. Following the entry made in the same style - composition Wings, published in 1968, Hollies afraid to release as a single and was presented to the World Wildlife Fund - for blagovoritelnogo collection No One's Gonna Change Our World. Thereafter Hollies dramatically changed musical course and started work on a new album in its traditional style. However, without finishing plate storonik more experimental direction Graham Nash quit the band and moved to the States. With his departure from the music of The Hollies disappeared last traces of psychedelia. Presented a stereo version of the plate.
